Psychical research William Sir 18441925 Barrett 9781172120178 Books

This is the perfect introductory book into the Society Of Psychical Research and it's huge stockpile of documented published evidence.

Sir William Fletcher Barrett (10 February 1844 in Kingston, Jamaica - 26 May 1925) was an English physicist and parapsychologist.
To quote Wikipedia :Barrett became interested in the paranormal in the 1860s after having an experience with mesmerism. Barrett believed that he had been witness to thought transference and by the 1870s he was investigating poltergeists. In September 1876 Barrett published a paper outlining the result of these investigations and by 1881 he had published preliminary accounts of his additional experiments with thought transference in the journal Nature. The publication caused controversy and in the wake of this Barrett decided to found a society of like-minded individuals to help further his research. To this aim he founded to Society for Psychical Research between January 5-6, 1882.

This book is a very, very fast read with large print and about 250 pages. But what a read it is!

I have been posting about the early founder of the Society and their individual works. This book just scratches the surface, but it gives you a very good sampling of the Society's work. By reading this book, you can decide if you would like to dig deeper. It is my personal feeling that anyone interested in the paranormal, psychics, telepathy, apparitions, death, and Spiritualism, take a look at these works. To be honest, after reading as much as I have, I really have to question the "scientific" approach of several of today's ghost hunting shows.

Mr. Barrett's book draws heavily from the following books:

Proceedings Of the Society Of Psychical Research (40 + volumes)

Journal Of the Society Of Psychical Research (Unknown number of volumes)

Proceedings Of the American Society Of Psychical Research (Unknown number of Volumes)

Phantasms Of The Living, Volumes 1 and 2 by Edmund Gurney, F. W. H. Myers, and Frank Podmore

Human Personality, And It's Survival Of Bodily Death, Vol. 1 and 2, F. W. H. Myers

If you are not sure if you want to tackle such a huge volume of work, read Mr. Barrett's book as an over all sample, then dig further. These all important psychological studies will change you perception of and help you clarify your beliefs.
